Seismic Fragility Curves for 1 and 2 Stories R/C Buildings
(İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi Yayınları / Istanbul Gelisim University Press, 2015-04-20) Tekin, Muhammed; Gürbüz, Ali
In this study, the fragility curves were formed for 1 and 2 stories reinforced concrete (RC) residential buildings. The information regarding the structures was taken from projects of the buildings. Nonlinear pushover (NP) analyze was performed to 84 RC buildings which were divided to 2 groups. The buildings built 1998 and later were called Group-A. The building built before 1998 was called Group B. As for nonlinear analysis, a 3D computer model was drawn for each building and nonlinear analyses were applied to these models. Each building was analyzed for 2 dimensions (X and Y). Totally 168 NP analysis were performed for each building. 4 damage limits (slight, moderate, heavy and complete) and 5 damage zones (undamaged, slight, medium, extensive and collapse) were determined according to maximum interstory drift ratio. Fragility curve parameters were obtained at the result of the NP analysis. Probability density functions were calculated with the help of lognormal mean and lognormal standard deviation values of limit states. The fragility curves were generalized for the buildings in Group A and Group B. At the conclusion of this work; 8 fragility curves obtained for 1 and 2 stories reinforced concrete buildings in. Using these 8 curves; damage possibility can be estimated for RC buildings which have same features.

Calculation of Aerodynamic Performance Characteristics of Airplane Wing and Comparing with the Experimental Measurement
(İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi Yayınları / Istanbul Gelisim University Press, 2015-06-11) Soğukpınar, Hacı; Bozkurt, İsmail
In this paper, aerodynamic performance of airplane NACA 2415 airfoils were numerically investigated to understand effect of angle of attack on the aerodynamic performance. The lift and drag coefficient, lift to drag ratio and power coefficients around NACA 2415 aerofoil were calculated with SST turbulence model and are compared with two different experimental data to validate simulation accuracy of Computational Fluid Dynamics approach. Result indicates that at the low angle of attack, the lift coefficient of NACA 2415 aerofoil obtained in the present study is in a good agreement with experimental results but after zero degree agreement is not good with experimental results.

Original Solutions for Structural and Functional Rehabilitation of Masonry Buildings
(İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi Yayınları / Istanbul Gelisim University Press, 2015-05-11) Kaptan, Kubilay
The paper presents strengthening solutions and elements of functional rehabilitation for a certain class of 2-4 storied historical buildings of masonry structure. In order to protect the ornamental plastering of the ceiling, an original technology of rehabilitation for large spanned timber slab structures was performed. The worked out technical solution was applied on several buildings. It is presented on the case of a historical building from the 19th century. This case also gives the opportunity to emphasizing the functional improvement of the building.

Single Phase Series Active For Aircraft Applications
(İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi Yayınları / Istanbul Gelisim University Press, 2015-06-04) Taha, Mohammad
Aircraft technology is moving toward what is known as More Electric Aircraft. This technology aims to increase the amount of electrical power equipment rather than mechanical or hydraulic equipment. This paper present an analytical method of calculating reactive and harmonic current and using this current as a reference to feed a series active filter to compensate the harmonic currents generated by a nonlinear load.

In-situ Measurement via E/M Impedance Spectroscopy Technique Using Shear Horizontal Piezoelectric Wafer Active Sensors
(İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi Yayınları / Istanbul Gelisim University Press, 2015-05-26) Kamaş, Tuncay
In this paper, an electromechanical in-situ measurement method is to be developed for determination of some properties of fuel-oils. Electromechanical impedance spectroscopy (EMIS) method is to be utilized in the measurement technique which will be developed. This method uses piezoelectric sensors that work in electromechanical principles as resonator and dynamically determines the characteristics of a medium that the resonator interacts. EMIS method has been mostly used to determine the dynamic changes in elastic properties of solid materials. This method utilizes the shear horizontal piezoelectric wafer active sensor (SH-PWAS) to generate shear horizontal mode standing waves. Piezoelectric wafer active sensors (PWAS), that are to be utilized in this study, have recently been developed as easily manufactured, small in size and weight, and broad banded transducers to utilize in qualitative and quantitative measurement systems.

Application of Soft Computing Models to Daily Average Temperature Analysis
(İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi Yayınları / Istanbul Gelisim University Press, 2015-02-02) Göçken, Mustafa; Boru, Aslı; Dosdoğru, Ayşe Tuğba; Berber, Nafiz
Providing critical information about daily life, weather forecasting has important role for human being. Especially, temperature forecasting is rather important because it affects not only people but also other atmospheric parameters. Various techniques have been used for analysis of the dynamic behaviour of weather. This ranges from simple observation of weather to using computer technology. In this study, ANFIS (Adaptive Network Based Fuzzy Inference System), ANN (Artificial Neural Network) and MRA (Multiple Regression Analysis) have been applied for weather forecasting. To judge the forecasting capability of the proposed models, the graphical analysis and the indicators of the accuracy of Mean Absolute Deviation (MAD), Mean Square Error (MSE), Root-Mean Squared Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Percent Error (MAPE), Determination Coefficient (R2), Index of Agreement (IA), Fractional Variance (FV), Coefficient of Variation (CV, %) are given to describe models’ forecasting performance and the error. The results show that ANFIS exhibited best forecasting performance on weather forecasting compared to ANN and MRA.

Analysis on Meeting the Electric Energy Demand with Small Wind Turbine in Turkey
(İstanbul Gelişim Üniversitesi Yayınları / Istanbul Gelisim University Press, 2015-05-27) Sogukpınar, Hacı; Bozkurt, İsmail
Wind energy is one of the most important renewable energy sources in terms of huge potential. Turkey has adequate wind energy potential to generate its own electricity. Together with the technological developments of wind turbine, generating electricity from wind energy is becoming increasingly common in Turkey and around the world. In this study, Turkey's wind energy potential and a small wind turbine to meet the electricity needs of a home were analysed economically. Installation height of the wind turbine is lower compared to other large turbine so wind speed can be slightly lower. Therefore smaller generator with larger wind turbine blade was scheduled to be assembled to meet the electricity needs for a house in Turkey. Cost of a system is about $ 6,576 and this system can pay for itself in 10 years.
